Susan is a PlayLeader at Scott Park ParkPlay in Burnley

Susan is 28, lives in Burnley and works as a primary school teacher. She is also one of the brilliant ParkPlay PlayLeaders.

How did you get involved in ParkPlay?

“I saw the opportunity to be a PlayLeader advertised so decided I’d give it a go in the hope of meeting new like-minded individuals whilst developing my skills.”

What do you love most about ParkPlay?

“What I love most about being a PlayLeader at ParkPlay is the sense of community and seeing the faces of the children light up every Saturday morning when we introduce new games!

I am a massive child at heart and encouraging the younger generations to get outside to meet, move and play is so wholesome.

Come rain or shine we can be found every Saturday in Scott park Burnley.

Everyone can take part and have fun! You do not have to be sporty to enjoy it and everyone is welcome at ParkPlay. We encourage individuals to try something new and to simply have a go!”

Why did you choose to be a PlayLeader?

“In primary school I used to love playing team sports and playing outside with my friends but as I got older I realised I wasn’t really the sporty type. I didn’t get involved in team sports or any sports if I’m being honest. But deep down I loved playing netball, rounders and running track. Being told you weren’t quite good enough by teachers was really quite disheartening. It took me far too long to realise you don’t have to be sporty to enjoy being active.

ParkPlay gives those people who are not so confident the opportunity to try new sports and games, play old ones they already love and encourage them that even if they’re not the best at something.”

What benefits have you got from joining ParkPlay?

“Through coming to ParkPlay I have met some lovely individuals and I have expended my local network. ParkPlay truly proves that anyone of any age can get outdoors have fun and move.”
