ParkPlay Champions
ParkPlay is on a mission to build happier, healthier communities through the life-changing power of play.
We are looking to build a network largely of experienced PlayDirectors or PlayLeaders who can use their direct knowledge to support other ParkPlays and their volunteers to reach their potential. ParkPlay Champions will be ParkPlay’s local eyes and ears on the ground, visiting ParkPlay events and giving direct support. Our aim is to have Champions in each region of the country with 3+ ParkPlays in 2026.
Main objective: to support existing ParkPlays and volunteers to get fundamentals right and support them to be brilliant, safe, inclusive and well-attended
Key responsibilities
- Regularly visit (c. every 6 weeks) all ParkPlays across the region to support volunteers and provide feedback to the central team (including via report form)
- Specifically aim to improve their skills, address any issues and provide other guidance as needed
- Capturing and following up actions to support and improve ParkPlays, taking the lead on local actions and liaising with central team for their support
- Important (but not only) contact for PlayDirectors and other volunteers in their assigned regions, e.g. running WhatsApp group and contacting PDs after their ParkPlay
- (Support ParkPlay team in establishing new ParkPlays when needed, e.g. meeting communities and helping with training / launches)
Other information
- Champions are likely to be volunteers and this is additional to PlayDirector role etc. Champions can continue to be at / support their home ParkPlay but with decreasing frequency as needed at other locations
- Needed principally on Saturday mornings (or when ParkPlays take place), at various locations, with limited follow up and communication (WhatsApp, email etc.) at other times of the week
- Supported by the ParkPlay team, who will provide all necessary guidance, documents etc; working principally to Ed in the central team
Personal attributes
- (Ideally) experience of ParkPlay in a volunteer role for 6+ months
- Share ParkPlay’s desire to help more people be happier and healthier, through supporting community-led activity and embody the ParkPlay values of togetherness, trust, excellence and sustainability.
- Strong empathy with volunteers in the region and ability to create strong trusted relationships
- Being a confident self-starter, who is self-motivated and able to work largely independently of others without direct oversight
