5 stories from 5000 ParkPlays

Getting to play with thousands of brilliant people over the last 5000 ParkPlays has meant we have heard hundreds of stories of people becoming happier and healthier through play and connecting with their community. Here are five of our favourites:

The confidence to make that career change in Basildon

Through coming to ParkPlay regularly, one of the ParkPlayers in Vange managed to develop the confidence he had lacked to realise his long term ambition of applying for a job in the police force.

He got that job, and through a lot of playing and having fun at ParkPlay he also lost weight that he had wanted to lose for a long time, which meant he could take that job in the police force!

James Vance
Finding a place to belong in Cumbria

A young boy became a ParkPlayer in 2022 with his dad. He had previously been to five different clubs and activities in the area before trying ParkPlay. His dad shared with us that because of his ADHD his son had struggled at those other clubs. He didn’t want to engage and didn’t enjoy them.

However, after arriving at ParkPlay he gets involved every week and enjoys meeting people, moving and playing with a smile on his face!

Three generations playing together in Essex

A granddaughter, a mother and a grandmother get to play together every week in their local park, in a way that works for all of them.

Together they spend quality time together that they wouldn’t have done without ParkPlay as much. They even shared with us that “ParkPlay helps keep our mental health positive”.

Foster families finding connection in Cornwall

Through coincidently coming to ParkPlay in a small Cornish town, multiple foster families met for the first time and formed a support network. They not only got to play together on a Saturday morning, but they also built up strong relationships.

These relationships meant they supported each other at other times in the week and felt connected to people in their community who shared similar experiences.

Spikes Bridge - Play
Two young sisters growing into community leaders in South London

Two teenage sisters started attending ParkPlay in 2021. Their potential was spotted by the PlayLeader. Through careful and dedicated mentoring, training from ParkPlay and most importantly their commitment and brilliance, they grew into community leaders in their own right.

Over their time at Parkplay, and through their dedication, they reached the point where they were leading ParkPlay regularly, and running ParkPlays for close to 100 people from their community.
