Be a PlayLeader

PlayLeaders will play a key role in the local park. They are the driving force, engaging local people and responsible for ParkPlayers enjoyment and wellbeing. Join the team and create opportunities for people to play in your community.

What you’ll be doing

As a PlayLeader, you’ll be the driving force behind ParkPlay in your local park and manage our participants’ experience there, focusing on delivering a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for everybody. You’ll deliver consistent, high quality activity sessions under a national brand and organisation with the autonomy to make ParkPlay the best it can be for your community – by you, for them.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • On Saturday, running the show including doing the pre-event safety checks, ensuring branding and signage is in place, directing the ParkPlay activities, and ensuring the site is returned to its previous state.
  • Having overall responsibility for connecting people and managing volunteers. You can form a small core team for your park, with other people helping you with specific tasks, e.g. social media.
  • Anticipating and taking the edge off any incidents that might arise at ParkPlay, and reporting to the ParkPlay team as required
  • Preparing the session plan beforehand (using the ParkPlay playbook)
  • Engaging ParkPlayers via social media before and after each ParkPlay
  • Promotion in local schools, faith groups and communities, and with other local partners
  • Communicating with ParkPlayers between ParkPlays and being a point of contact fielding questions for ParkPlayers and the team
  • Taking learnings from each week, implementing them locally and sharing them with the national team
  • Being there almost every Saturday for consistency, especially in the first 6 months
What we’re looking for

We want people who share our desire to help more people be active and improve your local community and park space. You’ll embody the ParkPlay values of togetherness, trust, excellence and sustainability as you encourage everyone to turn up, join in and cheer each other on.

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Having the soft skills to provide a big welcome, whilst being strong enough to manage a team of people and keep them true to ParkPlay values
  • Ability to understand and empathise with the local communities to engage and manage large groups of people with disparate backgrounds, abilities, fears, fitness levels and ages
  • Demonstrable coaching and organisational skills to run varied sessions including briefing, warm-ups, games and various park activities and sports. You do not need to be a single sport coach or have any qualifications. (ParkPlay will provide all necessary equipment and resources.)
  • First aid experience / qualification and understanding of safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults is preferable
  • PlayLeaders must be over 18 years of age
Our commitment to you

To guide and inspire you to deliver ParkPlay for the benefit of your local community, we will:

  • Provide you with all the resources, training and support you need
  • Give you the freedom to make ParkPlay the best it can be for your local community
  • Share our learnings and successes so we can all improve
  • Help you work with other local people and organisations so we can have the greatest impact
